Joshua 24:15 (NIV) Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. God’s message to Joshua: I will give you every place you place your foot. God’s majesty was available to fulfill God’s promise to Joshua: Joshua prayed and the sun stood still. Now the land has been conquered, and Joshua gives his parting statement to God’s people and to all people: Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. The lesson to Joshua is a lesson to us. As we stand before Christ, our declaration before the church and all people is the same: Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. The promise is the same for us, but like Joshua we must choose. This commitment is carried over to the NT where the Apostle Paul says the same thing: Romans 4:21 (NIV) (We) being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.
